MORGANTOWN -

The West Virginia Center for End-of-Life Care celebrated it's 10th anniversary Friday in Monongalia County.

The center works with patients across the state building a database of each person's end-of-life wishes.

The center's job is to then ensure that those wishes are known by doctors and are carried out.

Dr. Alvin Moss, executive director of the center, said historically the state often spends money on treatments patients don't want.

"As I say, people usually tell me, I want to live as long and well as I can, but when I die, I want to die gently," Dr. Moss said. "So our goal is to make sure is to make sure we they mean by die gently, and make sure we respect that patient's wishes."

The Center for End-of-Life Care also works to educate West Virginians so they can make accurate informed decisions about their end-of-life options.
