Webster County High School is showing off its school spirit.

The school is receiving spirit banners for its parking lot and grounds through the Safe and Supportive Schools grant program.

Students and faculty installed the banners on the school grounds on Friday. They said it's a way to help connect the community and the school.

"When the students are excited and feel a part of the school, their academic achievement goes up, test scores go up. The school is the community, it's not just about the school. This school belongs to the community and we need community support," said assistant principal Stacey Cutlip.

Webster Springs and Cowen also have agreed to hang the banners on light poles throughout the towns. Those will be installed later this spring.
