A Monday morning fire at a Rubin Resources wellpad in the Normantown area of Gilmer County was extinguished within about an hour.
No one was injured, according to the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department, which responded to the call.
A Rubin Resources employee told WBOY-TV that underground oil and gas tanks caught fire during a maintenance operation at the well. Workers shut off the lines that lead to the tank and then put out the fire, the employee said.
The well is a conventional well already in production, not a Marcellus Shale well and not one currently or recently drilled.
According to the fire department, the flames rose to an estimated 100 feet in the air when the fire hit pockets of gas. The fire was contained to the wellpad and to a small brush fire just outside the wellpad.
