Elkins City Council has approved shortening the early voting period for this year's municipal election.

Early voting will begin February 20 and end March 2.

Council decided to change the date to conform to the state's requirements for early voting.

The secretary of state's office said the city could have been vulnerable to a legal challenge that its early-voting period was improperly long by not conforming to the early-voting period stipulated in state code.

Elkins voters may cast ballots from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting February 20.

You also can vote on two Saturdays, February 23 and March 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early voting will take place at Elkins City Hall.
