CLARKSBURG -

West Virginia is ranked 49th in the country for the most energy efficient states.

It ranks seventh for lowest electric rates in the United States, but 26 states have lower power bills.

A public forum was held Tuesday to discuss these topics and how to make improvements to become more energy efficient.

Energy Efficient West Virginia is a group dedicated to helping this cause.

At the forum, representatives discussed two bills that they will be backing and trying to get into legislature.

The project manager for the group said he wants power companies like Mon Power to mimic what Appalachian Power is doing to be energy efficient.

"They'll come, and they'll do a free energy audit on your home. They come and do an energy walk-through. They'll tell you where you're losing money and what upgrades you should make. Then, there are even some rebate programs available so if you make the upgrades you can submit your receipts to Appalachian Power, and they'll give you some money back," said Stacy Gloss of Energy Efficient West Virginia.

When power companies have these incentives, it makes the whole state seem more energy efficient, and it will also lower the consumers' power bills.
