At the Miracle Run end of the underground Loveridge Mine in Monongalia County, a miner was hit in the head with a slate bar while he was attempting to put a loaded supply car back on the track, according to Hoy Murphy, a state spokesman.
The miner, identified as Glen L. Clutter, Jr., 51 of Baxter, was unconscious and flown by HealthNet to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment, Murphy said.
Clutter was in critical condition and on life support Thursday, according to Murphy. It's unclear where Clutter is being treated. He is not listed as a patient at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
A second injury happened at the Prime No. 1 underground mine outside of Star City shortly after 10 p.m. A miner received an electrical shock which resulted in burns. The miner was transported by ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment, and was conscious and alert at the time.
That miner's identity and condition are also unknown at the time. The mine is owned by Dana Mining.
