UPDATE: Construction on New National Guard Armory and Conference Center Continues

Update

A new National Guard armory and conference center is being built in Upshur County.

The project is now 20 percent finished, and the West Virginia Army National Guard said contractors are ahead of schedule.

Colonel David Shafer said the guard facilities try to blend in with the community and maintain a good partnership.

This is the first of four projects. Plans include a new U.S. Property and Fiscal Office building and field maintenance shop. Construction should be finished in November 2014.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a $750,000 loan for a new armory and conference center in Upshur County.

The facility on Brushy Fork Road will be the site for the new West Virginia National Guard and the conference center will be managed by the county's convention and visitor's bureau.

Officials said the loan will cover costs ahead of time for equipment purchases and legal fees.

The project should be finished by the end of 2014.
