Valentine's Day Busiest Day Of The Year For Florists

MARION COUNTY -

Valentine's Day is a day for spoiling the ones we love with cards, chocolates, and roses.

"It's our holiday," said Julie Bray, Backwoods Flowers & More. "It's a day for them to pamper us and show us how much they appreciate us and what we do for them."

While Valentine's Day consists of spoiling your significant other and showing your love, it is also a day of madness for a florist.

"The orders come in, yesterday, they came in really fast," said Kurt Helgeson, Backwoods Flowers & More. "They came in every three to five minutes, every ten minutes. We have two phones going at once."

"The past couple weeks with orders has just been hectic and chaotic," Bray added.

One may ask, how do they keep up?

"We are constantly busy from 8 in the morning and we have extended hours," Helgeson said. "We extend our hours until 6 p.m. So we are busy from 8 in the morning until we close."

Backwoods Flowers & More begins preparing for its busiest time of the year weeks ahead of time.

It takes hours to transform the flowers into the beautiful arrangement you receive.

"People don't realize what's all involved when the flowers do come in," Helgeson said. "We have to cut them, de thorn them, you have to give them prep food and everything else they need."

Many people preorder their Valentine's Day flower arrangements, but there are always those who wait until the last minute.

"We have all the pickups ready," Helgeson said. "People come in to get last minute gifts. We will have pre-mades ready."

"If it looks good to us, it's going to look good to them," Bray added. "We make sure it's pretty and nice."

And they sure do.

Valentine's Day is the busiest time for Backwoods.

It won't be long until it begins preparing for the second biggest holiday of the year; Mother's Day.
