Dunbar's annual Critter Dinner will feature
all sorts of unusual foods beginning at noon on Feb. 16 at the Dunbar Armory, 26th
Street and Fairlawn Avenue.
Price of admission is five cans of
non-perishable food or a cash donation to the Dunbar/Institute Food Pantry.
This annual fundraiser for the food pantry
attracts visitors from across the region. The dinner is cooked by local chefs
with a long history of association with the critter dinner. They begin their
work on Thursday before the big event and work until the last table and chair
is put away the kitchen is cleaned.
Much of the cooking is done in tents with
smokers and grills by volunteers who return to help every year. Members of
Dunbar City Council, members of the current administration, county and state
political figures and local volunteers serve the meal to the brave and curious.
Children especially love to taste the unusual offerings. For the not so
curious, traditional foods such as ham, chicken and baked beans will be available.
Participants will park at Shawnee Park on
Route 25 with shuttle bus service to the armory. For information, call the
Dunbar Recreation Center at 304-766-0223.
