The Bridgeport Department of Emergency Services is conducting a Hazardous Materials Commodities Flow Study to find the most dangerous chemicals passing through the town.
Railways, pipelines, air, transportation routes, and fixed facilities are all being looked into.
Traffic flow studies began earlier this week on Johnson Avenue outside the Bridgeport Middle School.
Shaunda Rauch is the emergency services director and said this is a way to pinpoint the issues in the community.
"By us doing the traffic flow, that gives us the opportunity to be able to be very specific and give the information to our community what they need to be aware of and to alleviate fears and to make sure our responders are on target with their ability to defend and protect our community," Rauch said.
Once the study is complete, Rauch added that they will be able to focus their emergency prevention efforts on the area they see causing the biggest problems.
