MORGANTOWN -

The 34th Annual Invitational High School Honor Band event was held Saturday at West Virginia University.

Three guest conductors from Ohio State University, Indiana University and Lake Braddock Secondary School lead the bands.

To perform in the event, high school band directors nominate deserving students.

"There was six of us that were supposed to be here today and I was the only trumpet so I was very surprised," said Kayla Means, a high school trumpet player from Uniontown, Pennsylvania. "It's a very big pleasure because trumpets are very challenging and very competitive. I was definitely very excited to be in honors band because I honestly did not think I was going to make it."

Around 400 students performed in the Creative Arts Center Saturday afternoon.
