An international student center recently opened on West Virginia State University's campus, the university recently announced.

The center, which is located at the Curtis Complex, serves as a gathering place for all international students at WVSU.

M.D. Rahman, president of the international student association at the university, said in the school's news release that he hopes the center will be a home away from home.

The university is taking other actions to promote and encourage international students to study there, the news release continues.

In January, the university hosted its first orientation session for international students.

"I have spoken to many students who would like to experience other facets of what West Virginia has to offer," Rahman said in the release.

The news release states one of the first outings organized for international students will take place Feb. 16, where these students will take a tour of the state capitol building and culture center. Following the tour, they will have lunch at Charleston's Bluegrass Kitchen.

The International Student Center is open Monday through Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m.; Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Friday from noon to 2 p.m.
