Authorities ruled the house a total loss after fire destroyed it Monday night.
Shinnston Fire Chief Doug Gregory said the fire, which originated in the attic, forced him to take defensive action and pull crews out of the house after its ceiling collapsed.
Gregory said the house was a rental property. Harrison County 911 said it was the house's owner who called to report the fire.
The Shinnston Fire Department is investigating.
