UPDATE:
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Wednesday an order placing all mines in West Virginia to stand down for at least one hour to review safety procedures.
Tomblin clarified this is not a shut down but rather a time for officials to ensure mining operations are meeting safety guidelines.
According to Tomblin, the stand down will occur at about Wednesday afternoon. Tomblin suggested the stand down to occur during a shift change at about 3 or 4 p.m.
The Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training authorizes all inspectors to begin going through all coal mines to assist mine operators in the safety one-hour stand down.
Authorities are sending every available inspector and supervisor to ensure every mine in West Virginia meets safety guidelines.
This statewide safety stand down comes on the heels of recent mine tragedies that have recently occurred in West Virginia. To read more, click on the links below:
West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced he will be holding a news conference at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
During the conference, Tomblin will sign an executive order calling for a statewide mine safety stand-down, according to a news release from the governor's office.
A live stream of the news conference will be held here beginning at 1 p.m.
The news conference will be held from the Capital and the Director of the Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training, Eugene White, will be in attendance.
