UPDATE: 2 People Sent to Hospital After Vehicle Accident in Taylor County

A vehicle accident in Taylor County sent two people to the hospital and shut down Route 50 in Grafton Wednesday afternoon.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department said a car lost control and went into the opposite lane, hitting a coal truck just after 2 p.m. on Route 50, just past the bowling alley.

The driver of the car, Brett Stemple, 22 of Independence, was severely injured and was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital. According to the sheriff's department, Stemple is currently in a coma.

Healthnet was called, but was not available.

The driver of the coal truck was transported to Grafton City Hospital with minor injuries but has since been released, according to the sheriff's department.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department, the Grafton Fire Department, the Thornton Fire Department, State Police and Taylor County EMS all responded.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
