The Waldo Hotel has been an icon in downtown Clarksburg ever since it opened its doors more than 100 years ago.
It's been through a lot over the years, and some Clarksburg residents think it's time to throw in the towel and call it quits.
Some of those people started a group on Facebook called Demo the Waldo. Some members have invested their time into documenting the deterioration of the Waldo with pictures, video and bookkeeping.
Supporters said pictures say it all.
"We've got a lot of change. On left window bricks are coming down, bricks are missing and there's a brick on the ledge," Courtney said.
Courtney pointed out some of the bricks that have already made their way onto the ground.
"More bricks on the road," Courtney said
Some sidewalks near the Waldo are closed off to pedestrians, and the right turning late on Pike Street is closed. Courtney said that barrier is cutting it close.
"A remnant of that brick fell within inches of that barricaded area," Courtney said
She also said the barriers aren't intimidating enough for people walking downtown.
"The sidewalk says it's closed and the barrier is not doing its job to keep people off of the street," Courtney said.
Her main concern is safety. She and others believe those bricks may kill someone one day.
"A brick that size weights about six pounds and from falling that distance it would cause about a 500 lb. impact if it hit someone. Anytime you walk by the building, drive by the building you're putting yourself at risk. If something could fall off it could crush a person, it could injury you. It could crush a windshield it could crush a car. You don't know from one day to the next what is going to fall off the building. It damaged my car last summer," Courtney said.
