SHINNSTON -

The First Baptist Church in Shinnston began raising money for their Relay for Life team, "A Wing and a Prayer," with a chili cook-off.

It cost $4 to enter the fundraiser and 100 percent of the proceeds went to the church's relay team.

Tammie Preston is the church's chairman for the relay team.

She said leading the team is her way of honoring her mother, who was diagnosed with lung cancer last year.

"The out-love of support from our community, from our church, everybody just has all been touched, there is not a person that we know that has not been touched by this disease and we just want to do what we can to help stop it, to help cure it," said Preston.

People who attended the fundraiser could taste any of the 10 chilis, desserts, or corn bread.

All of the food was made by parishioners and the top three chili winners received prizes.
