The Bridgeport Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a room on 4 North at United Hospital Center at 3 p.m. Monday.

An ultra violet light machine that is used to clean rooms at the hospital caught on fire, according to Matt Chisler, director of public relations.

A nurse was able to extinguish the fire, although it filled the floor with smoke and some patients had to be relocated. Extra housekeepers have been brought in to clean the walls and ceilings. Patients are expected to be returned to the rooms later Monday evening, according to UHC officials.

The room sustained some damage and the ultra violet light machine is damaged.

The Stonewood and Anmoore Fire Departments were also alerted.
