BUCKHANNON -

This is "Be A Buddy, Not a Bully" week at Washington Elementary School in Upshur County.

The school is focusing on reducing bully behaviors, and increasing ways to be a buddy.

Students learned on Tuesday how to stand up to a bully, and were encouraged to get to know someone better during "Be a Buddy at Lunch."

"It's important that students understand what bullying is, and to know what to do when its happening, and stand up for it if they see it happening," said Cathy McCauley, school counselor.

Other fun activities in the future will include students reading to other students, a buddy dance, and compliment days.
