MVB MVP: Notre Dame Forward Cal Cistaro

CLARKSBURG -

"We've been playing some of the best ball of the whole season these last seven or eight games. Right now, we're kind of peaking," Notre Dame junior forward Cal Cistaro said. "So I think we can get to states. We started out a little shaky, but we've really come on here in the last seven or eight games."

The reason why the Irish are coming on is because Cal Cistaro has begun to hit his stride. The junior forward has averaged 15.5 points over the last four games. The Irish are 3-1 over the stretch. So not only is Cal scoring, but they're winning too. He said his team has come a long way.

"Just coming together as a team," Cistaro said. "We were kind of distant to start off the season. Then we just kind of had some things happen and we came together as a team. Now everybody is on the same page."

Notre Dame is a team that likes to get out and run. The Irish don't have a player that stands taller than 6'4, which means a lengthy athlete like Cistaro has been the target for several fast break baskets. He said his 6'4, 155 lb. body frame has been a matchup problem for opposing teams.

"Anytime they put a shorter guy on me, I like to try and take it to the post," Cistaro explained. "If they bring someone big on me, I like to use my quickness and go around them. We're not a big team at all. So we just like to get out and run and get open layups. None of us are really post up players or what you would call 'big bangers.' We just like to get out and run. So it's a whole team effort."

A total team effort thanks to the contributions of a budding local star.
