Work on a new Public Works Building on Minor Avenue is close to completion.

The City of Fairmont purchased the property several years ago in order to consolidate all of the Public Works operations.

A shell building will house all divisions of the public works department and salt and cinders will be located in a nearby garage.

City Manager Jay Rogers said its important to have everyone together and all of the supplies in one place.

"It centralizes our operations. We are no longer going to this location to get this material or this supply. We have everything housed in one location," Rogers said.

Dry wall is currently being installed and the final layout of the office is near completion.

Rogers said employees should be moved in sometime in late April.
