WHEELING, WV (AP) — Table games are becoming a losing bet for Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack.
Wheeling Island expects to lose about $1 million on the games this year.
President and general manager Jim Simms tells The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register that Wheeling Island is losing customers to casinos in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The games also are labor-intensive.
He says Wheeling Island has done everything it can to reduce costs and increase its customer base.
No
decision has been made regarding table games. But Simms says Wheeling
Island will have to consider whether to continue offering them if it has
to pay a $2.5 million annual fee to the West Virginia Lottery
Commission again.
The state's four racetracks must pay the fee to operate table games.
