Restaurant Road Trip: Hometown Pizzeria

BELINGTON -

Hometown Pizzeria in Belington is family owned and operated, and when you walk through the door you feel like part of that family.

"This is our fourth year in business, and it's a family owned and operated business. We try to keep the atmosphere a family oriented community," said Ricky Hymes, one of four owners.

Hometown Pizzeria is owned by Hymes and his wife, Heather, and her brother Eddie Weese and his wife, Judy. Hymes said the family atmosphere brings customers back after the first visit.

"When people come in the door they enjoy being here. We have a lot of parents that tell us when they ask their kids where they want to go they say to the pizza shop. So it's just the camaraderie of the people here," Hymes said.

All of the food at Hometown Pizzeria is made in house.

"Of course we make our dough and our sauce fresh everyday. Another thing we make fresh here is the hot dog chili. Everyone seems to love the calzones, our steak hoagies, if it's on the menu it's good," Hymes said.

Hometown Pizzeria incorporates the Belington community into its restaurant in many ways.

"You can tell by the décor that we have all of our schools on the walls. We support our local fire departments and squads. They're on the walls as well, so it's a community restaurant," Hymes explained.

Some of the customers even see familiar faces represented on the walls.

"My daughter is in one of the pictures over there, one of the cheerleaders. It's nice to keep that you know it's local, local people here, local people working here," said Max Chevalier, a regular customer.

The owners also kept the community in mind when they were perfecting the recipe for the homemade sauce.

"Our pizza sauce we made ourselves, we came up with the recipe. When we first opened we had people here to try it. We had to do some adjusting on it, but we finally got it right and people seem to like it," Hymes said.

The customers said everything on the menu is worth a try.

"We come here with my family on the weekends. We have the hoagies, the calzone is good, all the food is good," Chevalier said.
