BRIDGEPORT -

The Harrison County Mayors' Association discussed plans for West Virginia's sesquicentennial at a meeting Wednesday evening.

The 150th birthday celebration will include tours of historic civil war venues, a Civil War era baseball game, and a Stonewall Jackson celebration.

Clarksburg mayor Patsy Trecost said the celebration will be good for Harrison County.

"It's an exciting time for all across West Virginia. We want people to come to Harrison County, see the history we have, and then by doing that we can find out what's going on in the rest of the state and visit them and be a part of something special," said Trecost.

Sammy DeMarco, who is the mayor of Shinnston, said the celebration will also be good for the cities individually.

"We do have a community where we have a nice park, and a nice rail trial. With our Shin House it brings tourism and this is one of the biggest steps in creating tourists to come to the area," said DeMarco.

The county celebrations will begin on May 10 with the Stonewall Jackson Celebration.

On June 8, the county will host a film festival of Civil War films and a tour of historic venues.

On June 22, a Civil War-era baseball game will be held at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.

West Virginia will celebrate its sesquicentennial on June 20.
