The West Virginia Senate has unanimously approved a bill that would allow Monongalia County to levy a special tax to improve infrastructure around the University Town Center in Morgantown.
The bill would provide $28 million for a new interchange along Interstate 79 and $16 million for a new baseball stadium for West Virginia University and a possible minor league baseball team.
It would also pay for improvements and expansions to local water, sewer and road systems.
The TIF has now been sent to the House for debate.
This TIF would be the third sales tax TIF in West Virginia.

The Sales Tax Increment Financing district at the University Town Center has passed the committee stage in the state Senate.
The TIF is one of two districts that would fund an interchange off Interstate 79 and infrastructure to support development of a new baseball stadium.
The final reading of the bill will be Monday.
The bill then heads to the House and governor for final approval.
