MORGANTOWN -
The Problem Gambler Health Network said about 9 million Americans have a gambling problem, and only a few of them receive help.
National Problem Gamblers Awareness Week is March 3 to March 9, and the Problem Gambler Health Network is putting together events to help people that want to kick the habit.
The Health Network said that the only way to combat the disease is by facing it head-on.
"Gambling is a chronic addiction, but there is help for it and it can get better," says Patty Deutsch, the program manager at Problem Gamblers Health Network West Virginia. "The keys to getting better is that somebody, first of all, admits they have a problem, seeks help with somebody that understands the problem and can help them, that they stay connected with a support group, and that they identify the problem and the triggers."
The Health Network will talking about addiction at Valley Health Systems in Morgantown Friday. March 8 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.
