MORGANTOWN -
West Virginia University College of Law Public Interest Advocates (PIA) hosted its 25th auction Thursday evening.
PIA is a student organization that works with the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest. They provide free legal aid services by WVU law students to the elderly, the poor, children and victims of domestic violence.
"It's great to see the community come together," said Michael Nissim-Sabat, president of the Public Interest Advocates at WVU. "At time the items are going for much greater than what they're worth. I guess it's just a great showing of the community support of our endeavors to provide services for those that can't afford it."
Last year, the group raised around $20,000 and had a goal of $30,000 this year. The proceeds go towards helping with living expenses when the students partake in the program.
PIA has placed more than 300 students total in the summer fellowship program. It will have 17 students participating this summer.
