State Police are investigating the death of a Tygart Valley Regional Jail inmate, according to Ashley Bennett, spokesperson for West Virginia Regional Jail Authority.
Charles Ellison, 36, died around 6:20 a.m. on Friday at the jail in Norton, Randolph County, Bennett said.
State Police said the body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. Preliminary autopsy results are inconclusive at this time, according to Bennett.
Ellison was being held in the jail since October 2011 on burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, forgery, and obstruction (misdemeanor) charges.
Tygart Valley Regional Jail was not put on lockdown following Ellison's death, according to Bennett.
State Police describe Ellison's death as suspicious.
