Elkins Middle School Participating in NBC's 'Smash Make a Musical' Program

Posted: Updated:

Elkins Middle School is one of the top 30 schools across the country competing for a $3,000 Lowe's gift card and it needs your vote to win it.

Elkins Middle School is participating in NBC's "Smash Make a Musical" program. The program offers five schools the opportunity to improve their school theaters.

Elkins Middle School said it would use the money to improve the lighting, sound, and stage in the school's gymnasium. Most of the theater equipment hasn't seen any major improvements since the school was built in the early 1950s.

"These middle school students that don't get involved in after school activities have kind of found their niche with theater and musical theater, and I think it's very important we get these improvements," said Danielle Riggins, of Elkins Middle School.

"I think if we got this, it would be a great opportunity for our school, just a perfect thing for our theatre I think it would help us," said Maddi Bowers, a 7th grade student.
