PHILIPPI -

Parents and coaches from Barbour County middle schools held a basketball fundraiser Sunday to help save their beloved school sport.

The Barbour All County Sports Organization was formed to keep sports in the county's middle schools.

It held a basketball tournament as part of the fight.

Robin Humphreys said the organization has been working nonstop for two weeks to organize the event.

"I'm hoping with fundraising you know we can get them back. I'm hoping that every year that the board of education will put it back on their budget and try to get it worked back into their budget, because the first year of doing that you know we're going to be okay but if we have to do it every year I feel it being more challenging," Humphreys said.

Humphreys said the basketball fundraiser is one of many.

The boys basketball tournament will take place every day until Thursday.

If you would like to help you can donate to Barbour County Middle School sports at: P.O. Box 53, Philippi, WV 26416, or visit Barbour All County Sports Organization's Facebook.
