A long-time state legislator passed away in her Elkins home over the weekend, according to an obituary.

Ursula Jae Spears, 90, passed away Saturday. Spears was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1974, and to the Senate in 1980. She became the first and only woman to ever chair the Senate Finance Committee from 1984-1986.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.The funeral will take place at the First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.
