Main Street Communities Meet to Discuss Upcoming Projects

Posted: Updated:

Main Street West Virginia aims to help cities throughout the state bring their downtown areas back to life.

Various people with expertise in tourism, development, and revitalization came to Fairmont to meet with several Main Street communities.

Each community shared a project it was working on with the group then discussed ways to work through barriers and what potential solutions could be.

Teams played games and competed for funding toward their projects.

"We notice that a lot of different people don't really talk to each other much. They are all very busy doing what they do well and working hard. So when we get people together maybe some ideas come up that they wouldn't have had otherwise. They can sort of feed off of each other and learn from each other while planning for their own projects," said Carrie Staton, WVU employee.

One of the most common projects between the communities was what to do with dilapidated buildings.
