Posted: Updated:

Several fire departments responded to the scene of a sawmill fire in Cowen just before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Crews were on scene at Allegheny Wood Products for more than two hours extinguishing the fire, according to the Webster County Office of Emergency Services.

The fire appeared to have started in the hydraulic room of the sawmill and crews contained the fire to that area.

The dayshift crew at the sawmill was evacuated at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries, according to the Cowen Fire Department.  About 45 people work at Allegheny Wood Products, according to the company's website.

Officials are still investigating the extent of the damage. It's not clear how long it will take for the sawmill to resume operations.

Cowen VFD, Webster Springs and Nicholas County Craigsville also responded to the scene.
