Salem residents are invited to a town meeting Wednesday to discuss the proposed conversion of the Industrial Home for Youth into a correctional center.

State officials will be on hand to discuss employment and other related topics with residents. The meeting will be held at the National Guard Armory in Salem and will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Last week, the state announced a plan to transform the Industrial Home for Youth into the Salem Correctional Center, a minimum/medium-security adult prison effective July 1, 2013, according to a news release from the W.Va. Division of Corrections.

Employment and other topics will be discussed at the public meeting.
