Gilmer and Lewis Counties Continue To Share 911

Posted: Updated:

Two local counties will continue to share 911 dispatch services.

The Lewis County Office of Emergency Management said it will continue to share 911 services with Gilmer County.

Gilmer County has been working on building a new 911 center for some time, but said it won't be finished this year.

Lewis County OEM Director Bill Rowan said it's a partnership that is reflected in other ways as well.

"We're in the same district with the State Police, we're in the same region, Homeland Security region, so we're seeing each other on a monthly basis besides the 911 side," said Rowan.

Rowan said Lewis County supports Gilmer County's efforts to open its own 911 center, but will continue to work with Gilmer County as long as is necessary.
