West Virginia University recently joined the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
Its Hispanic population only makes up about 3-percent of the student body.
But Chief Diversity Officer David Fryson said being part of the association will allow the university to work on new strategies to attract more Hispanic students.
WVU will also work with other institutions that have larger Hispanic populations.
"It's important for us to reach out to all the under-represented and under-served groups, of which the Hispanic population is under-served on our campus," Fryson said.
He also said making the campus more diverse will benefit all students.
"It is a value to our students to matriculate in an institution that looks like our nation and looks like the world," Fryson said.
