MORGANTOWN -

Monongalia County Commission will grant the city of Morgantown a $488,000 loan for an access road to the new National Guard Readiness Center.

The decision was made after the city amended its agreement with the county, guaranteeing it would pay it back by June 30, 2014.

The county had been withholding the loan because repayment in an old, now expired, agreement was based solely on the sale of the old armory.

"People forget, the city of Morgantown is in Monongalia County, and the people of Morgantown are also people of Monongalia County. So we can't, in good conscience, I mean you can't exclude Morgantown projects for consideration by the county commission," said commissioner Bill Bartolo.

The new access road could also support a proposed industrial park.
