ELKINS -

There are a lot of unique places to eat in our area. This week's stop on the Restaurant Road Trip takes us to Elkins, where you'll find a restaurant that offers meals for any time of the day, and workers who know most of their customers by name.

Scottie's opened in Elkins in 1972, when a man from Nitro originally opened the restaurant in a double wide trailer on Randolph Avenue. Elizabeth Bowers, the restaurant's current owner, started working at Scottie's in 1979.

A new location was built four years ago, and after the previous owner considered retiring, Bowers decided to keep it going.

"Scottie's is my passion. It always has been, so you know what, I can do this, I want to do this so I decided to buy it," said Bowers.

The restaurant is a family-run business. You'll see just about every one of Bowers' family members working.

Like the slogan says, you can get breakfast and hamburgers served anytime, and that full service is provided seven days a week.

"We have homemade vegetable, chili, potato soup. We have homemade biscuits. We only use fresh potatoes, hamburger, fresh sausage everything is fresh down to our produce everything, we want everything to be good," Bowers said.

Don't be surprised if after a few visits the staff knows you by name. Customers said that's why they keep coming back, a few retirees even have a name for their group: 'Romeo's' (Retired Old Men Eating Out).

"I like it 'cause people are friendly. They know who I am, because I've been coming here a long time. I like the food. It's a very casual atmosphere you never have to wait a long time unless they're really, really busy," said Marilyn Palmer Richards of Elkins.

For Bowers, treating the customers like family is the restaurant's number one goal.

"I treat the people like I want to be treated, learn their names, learn a little bit about them, let them know, you as an individual are important to us we need them as much as they need us," Bowers said.

Scottie's is located on 800 7th Street in Elkins. Its phone number is 304-636-7500. Scottie's is open Monday-Saturdays from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
