The WVIAC released its weekly awards on Monday, with quite a bit of local players mixed in.

Jeff Conley of Alderson-Broaddus was named WVIAC Player of the Week in baseball. Conley, a 6'1" junior outfielder/pitcher from Fort Ashby, W. Va., guided the Battlers to a 6-0 week. He recorded 12 hits and belted out a .545 batting average on the week. In the weekend sweep of Fairmont State, he batted .556 and drove in three runs. For the week, he drove in seven, had three doubles, blasted a round-tripper and swiped two bases.

In softball, Kristy Kellogg of Alderson-Broaddus and Chelsea Cobb of Fairmont State were also honored.

Kellogg, a 5'0" senior outfielder from Phoenix, Ariz., led the Battlers to a 2-0 week with a sweep over Edinboro. She posted a .750 batting average, going six-for-eight in the twinbill. Kellogg swiped three bases and walked once. She registered three hits in each contest.

Cobb, a 5'10" senior from Dunbar, W. Va., threw a complete-game shutout over Edinboro. She gave up just three hits in seven innings while striking out eight without giving up a walk. With runners on second and third in the first frame, she struck out the next batter to end the inning. She also struck out two straight to end the third after a player had reached scoring position. Cobb finished the game by striking out the final two batters of the game.
