The 1,100-pound Asian water buffalo cow and her 375-pound bull calf were reported wandering throughout eastern Jackson County in recent months, and agriculture officials speculated the pair was left behind when an area game farm closed last year.

Now they're up for the highest bidder through the State Agency for Surplus Property.

The vitals are listed on the public auction website, among categories such as jewelry, outdoor equipment, food supply, furniture and motor pool.

As of the morning of March 27, nine bids had been placed on the pair, with the standing bid at $305 and one full day remaining on the auction.

The cow and calf currently are located at Lakin State Farm in West Columbia, and the auction stipulates the buyer must pick up the items as well as have an adequate facility for the pair.

The description lists the condition of the cow and calf as unknown, but they both have current TB and Brucellosis negative tests that expire April 5 and they have received "good quality hay with some grain."
