Southside Committee in Fairmont Working to Revitalize Community

Some Fairmont residents have been working non-stop to revitalize their community.

Southside runs from the Spanky Roberts Bridge to Fourth Street and from Virginia Avenue to Albert Court.

The Southside Committee said it has an attachment to the area and wants to see it improved.

It's even working on restoring or demolishing buildings to make way for new businesses and has met recently with the Division of Highways to discuss adding a new bridge to the neighborhood.

"It is kind of going to help clear traffic or help move traffic from the downtown Gateway Connector all of the way to where Fairmont General Hospital is and Fairmont State College is," said Bob Gribben, of Southside Committee.

The Division of Highways could start building the bridge this summer.
