The American Heart Association named Wednesday "National Walking Day."

Wednesday afternoon, it held a heart walk at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.

About 75 people took the mile trek from the hospital out to route 705 and back.

It was a trip the heart association said we can all afford to make.

"Ideally it's best to be active everyday. Even if it's for 20 minutes, 30 minutes; if you've been sedentary, it's better to start with a 20 minute walk, and build up from there," said Brenda Hawkins, of Mon General Hospital.

Before the walk, Mary Lou Retton spoke with walkers about the importance of staying in shape. She told them you don't have run yourself hard in a gym each day, but just walk and stay active.
