Dubbed "The Sweethearts of Bluegrass" by Tom T. and Dixie Hall, Darin and Brooke Aldridge were
nominated in 2011 for Emerging Artist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association and for gospel group, album and song of the year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music. Fans across the country have discovered the "new but still traditional" music Darin perfected as a member of the Acoustic Syndicate and the legendary Country Gentlemen.

The couple comes to the stage at 7:30 p.m. April 6 at the Pocahontas County Opera House.Tickets are $8. Youth 17 and younger are admitted free of charge.

Their recent, self-titled album propelled Darin and Brooke Aldridge into the top five on Bluegrass,
Americana Roots, and Gospel music charts. One of the songs from the album held onto the number two spot on the Bluegrass chart a full year after the album was released. Last summer they were the most played bluegrass artists on Sirius/XM radio.

The band features veteran Chris Bryant on banjo. Bryant has played music with Darin since they
performed together with Charlie Waller and the Country Gentlemen. The band also features two
products of the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Music Program: Rachel Johnson Boyd and Dwayne Anderson. Johnson contributes excellent work on the fiddle and her vocals with Darin and Brooke make for of the finest trios in bluegrass today.

Darin Aldridge first played music in public when he was six years old. Beginning with piano and drums and adding band instruments while in school, he soon gravitated towards stringed instruments. Learning to play banjo in order to join his first band, Straight and Narrow, he was encouraged to switch to mandolin when he showed an aptitude for it while teaching someone else to play. Since then, teaching has been one of his consistent activities. He now teaches in his studio as well as at the Gaston County School of the Arts in Gastonia, North Carolina, near his home in Cherryville.

Darin has also filled in on stage with Blue Highway, Mike Snider, Paul Williams, The Isaacs, Mac
Wiseman, Jim Lauderdale, George Hamilton IV and Blueridge, to name a few.

Brooke Justice Aldridge grew up on the mountains of Avery County, North Carolina just a few miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Her voice carries the lilt of the mountains along with the sophisticated sounds of a singer with experience well beyond her 25 years. Success in countless competitions led her to venture out beyond home, and in 2004 she competed in the regionals of the Nashville Star competition in Columbus, Georgia, where she finished third in a talented group of more than one hundred hopefuls. In 2007, Brooke recorded her very first CD.

The Opera House Performance Series is presented with financial assistance through a grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Financial support for this concert is also provided by Pocahontas County Drama, Fairs and Festivals, Pendleton Community Bank and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

The Pocahontas County Opera House is located at 818 Third Avenue in Marlinton. Performances at the Opera House are informal, family-friendly and open to all. The entrance and main seating are accessible to persons with disabilities. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to attend; special accommodations can be arranged upon request by calling 304-799-6645.
