Upshur County Commission Approves Rate Increase for 911 Ordinance

Posted: Updated:

The Upshur County Commission has approved a rate hike for its enhanced 911 ordinance.

Upshur County has charged a 911 fee of $2.65 since 2005.

The increase would raise the monthly landline fees to $4.50 for residents and $6.50 for businesses.

The commission said the increase was needed because revenues are declining, and expenses are going up.

"One way for the county commission to cover the increase in expenditures we would have to have increased revenues from somewhere, whether its 911 fee increase or general tax revenue increase the money has to come from somewhere if we offer the services which we're mandated to do in this case," said Willie Parker, county administrator.

The fee increase will go into effect on July 1.
