The Taylor County Sheriff's Department wants to make residents aware of a scam that is taking place in the county.

Chief Deputy Robert Beltner said someone is calling residents in the county pretending to be the State Police.

The person on the phone will say you were pulled over on Interstate 79 and will go to jail unless you pay a $150 fine.

This has happened several times in Taylor County and Chief Deputy Beltner said there's no truth behind it.

"If you get this call, definitely a scam. There is no speed cam set up. If you are caught speeding its going to be through a magistrate or city judge. No one is going to call you and say you owe $154," Chief Deputy Beltner said.

If you receive this call, contact Chief Deputy Beltner at the Taylor County Sheriff's Department.
