WVU Students, WV Community Hub Hold Buy Local Fair in Morgantown

Posted: Updated:

Some WVU students worked to spread the message of buying local Tuesday.

The groups teamed up with the West Virginia Community Hub to hold a Buy Local Fair at Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown.

About 20 vendors showed off some of the best products the city offers.

Organizers said buying local has many benefits.

"There's economic benefits, as well as community benefits. When you go to locally owned business you learn about the people who are living in your community, and you connect with the community, and you start to build those networks, and those personal connections," said Lauren Brennan, event coordinator.

The 3/50 project, a buy local campaign, said 68 percent of locally spent money stays local, compared to 43 percent spent at national chains.
