The Fairmont Fire Department is investigating a fire that damaged a building that's home to both businesses and residents.

Marion County 911 said it started at about 8:45 p.m. on Fairmont Avenue.

The Marion County Rescue Squad said it rescued one person from the building's roof and that firefighters contained most of the damage to the second and third floors.

Businesses on the first floor, Fairmont Community Development Partnership and Connecting Link, sustained water damage.

The fire is believed to have started in the apartment's kitchen. The building's residents and businesses will have to look for a new place to reside, according to officials.

The State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire. Fairmont Fire Chief Jim Emerick said the fire is not suspicious.
