MORGANTOWN -

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, April 15 through April 19, gives the public a chance to learn more about what happens when they dial 911.

Wednesday, MECCA 911 in Monongalia County held an open house.

The idea was to get the public more informed about the jobs and roles telecommunicators play in an emergency, in order to work better with them incase one happens.

"It's basically an educational experience," said MECCA 911 director Mike Wolfe. "So that when they do call 911, they're more prepared, and have a visual in their mind that they know what we're doing, and know that we can't see what's happening during their situation, and that's why we need the information and questions answered."

MECCA 911 will hold an awards ceremony and has events planned all week for its employees. Local first responders will also be stopping by to drop off treats and saying thanks.
