Preston High School basketball has experienced some of its best years in recent memory. Each of the boys and girls teams were ranked in the top 10 this past season, and now some of its players are seeing the benefit of playing for a solid program.
Mitchell Koch signed his Letter Of Intent on Wednesday to play basketball at Shepherd University next year.
Koch was a scoring and rebounding machine for the Knights last season. He said committing to the Rams just felt right.
"[I was looking at] A-B and a couple of other Division III schools," Koch admitted. "But I chose Shepherd because I like the coaches a lot when I went on a visit there. The players are really cool and everything, I liked that. The campus is really nice."
Mary Jane Braham of the Preston girls basketball team also signed her Letter Of Intent on Wednesday. Braham decided on Davis and Elkins.
She was a huge asset for the Lady Knights last season. Braham was a third team All-State selection in Class AAA.
She said the proximity of Kingwood to Elkins was a big factor in her decision.
"Just the place in general," Braham added, "they have some really nice people there. It felt like home to me. It's really close to home, so that really helped out too."
