A child abuse charge against Washington Irving Middle School principal Brian Scott Hage, 40, of Clarksburg, was dismissed in Harrison County Magistrate court Monday.

Hage agreed to a pretrial diversion agreement that requires him to undergo psychological or psychiatric evaluation, complete any counseling that may be recommended as a result of the psychological or psychiatric treatment, and complete training through the Harrison County Board of Education regarding proper methods of disciplining unruly students, according to court documents.

Hage has 18 months to complete the requirements of the agreement. If he doesn't complete the terms of the agreement, the child abuse resulting in injury charge against him will be re-filed, according to court documents.

Hage was arrested in February after getting into a verbal argument with a juvenile male student at Washington Irving Middle School, according to court documents. The incident was captured by surveillance footage at the school.
